Flor Pastor. Born in Acapulco, Guerrero in 1979, I traveled around different cities in Mexico throughout my childhood and eventually settled in Mexico City to get a Bachelor Degree in International Relations. During that same period I started getting involved in gypsy and oriental music and dance, when invited to join a traditional Greek music Ensemble, The Argonauts (directed by Dimitri Yanisis and Rodrigo Santoyo), as the main dancer. This invitation took place during a series of open rehearsals the band held in its beginnings, where the band met my most spontaneous free dance and invited me to work with them, teaching me the different rythms and musical structures of their repertoire through the zills and other hand percussions, as well as some traditional greek circle dances, joining all of the band's private rehearsals, and becoming the main dancer and zill player for their performances. At the same time I started taking bellydance lessons and started getting into very traditional middle eastern and gypsy styles. Before this experience I had studied Flamenco as an amateur for about 5 years and Oddisi Dance intensively for about 6 months (including 4 months in the Indian Temple of Fine Arts in Malaysia), so I was not new to the idea of dancing and performing, but working together with The Argonauts marks the first time I ever actually performed as a solo dancer and worked on my own coreographies. After The Argonauts some of the memebers created the Egyptian Music Ensemble, with Flor Pastor and Amaranta Jacome as the main dancers -Flor and Amaranta worked together under the name "Two Gypsies" for many years.

In 2004 I started teaching my first Raqs Sharki lessons, ever since then already focused on the therapeutic benefits of dance and moving meditation, and thus creating the concept of Dance for the Spirit and many different workshops on different gypsy-related dance styles and fusions.
I am currently trying to untwine myself by de-gypsyfying my stage persona, although what makes me ultimately a gypsy, or a nomad, is not something I could ever change or hide, and lies not in the words or tags, but in the essence of what moves me.
The music I dance to moves specific fibers within me and I try to connect the dots and follow invisible lines to break through and communicate with the audience. I don´t mean to be perfect or look the prettiest, I mean to reveal who I am and what I see, and the reasons why I am where I am, as are we all. I mean to project my own bliss and create positive energy within and all around.
I stand for peace, love, truth, unity, freedom, respect, and on top of all, the magic of human transmutation.
Without fear, without evil, without chains, without damage.
