NOMAD´je - i am not a gypsy
The alias "Nomad Spirit" is born in 2010 as a way of identifying my work with more subtle energies and with more generic concepts at the same time, disolving the gypsyness and integrating spirituality more evidently in workshops and shows, and creating new performances and work groups.
Since the year 2000 I have been practicing different styles of gypsy dance from around the world, and learning about the gypsy cultures; but what brings me closest to the gypsies is in deed related to my very own nature and nomadic lifestyle, more than any specific culture studies or influence.
Apart from my dancing experience with gypsy and oriental dances, I have chosen to dress in long skirts and cover my hair and shoulders regularly for over ten years, as some kind of vow against vanity. This has helped me travel unnoticed through far exotic lands where women are used to this dress codes, by just adapting my clothing to the local codes and colors, and thus enjoying being just one more in the crowd through some very special celebrations with music and dance around the world, where devotion, community and joy are the most important things, in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Morroco, Mali, Burkina Fasso, amongst others.
The new production "NOMAD'JE (I am not a gypsy)" includes a new repertoire in which the emphasis is not on the gypsy culture and dance, but on the most diverse and authentic, most personal and most transcendental stages of my dance work. It is divided in "movements", each containing different improvisation schemes and coreographic notions that are also explored and practiced in my workshops.
I am trying to untwine myself by "de-gypsyfying" my stage persona, although what makes me ultimately a gypsy in my heart is not something I could ever change or hide, does not lie in the words or tags.
The music I dance to moves specific fibers within me and I try to connect the dots and follow invisible lines to break through and communicate with the audience. I don´t mean to be perfect or look the prettiest, I mean to reveal who I am and what I see, and the reasons why I am where I am, as are we all.
I stand for peace, love, truth, unity, freedom, respect, and when I dance I mean to generate a flow of positive energy when I dance, not only for me, but for all.
